Bus knocks down cyclists protesting for road safety

Over 850 cyclists gathered in downtown Helsinki, Sunday, to bring awareness to bicycle and road safety and honor the death of a fellow cyclist who was hit by a car last week. Unfortunately, the demonstration — dubbed “march on wheels” — was cut short when a bus drove into the cyclists’ lane.

Finish broadcaster Yle reported, “The bus tried to merge into the same lane as the cyclists, causing some of the group to fall.”

Cyclists confronted the bus driver which escalated to the angered driver throwing one of the demonstrators’ bikes under another bus.

No one was injured but police are currently investigating if charges will be filed.

During the confrontation, Twitter user @OutiPopp tweeted and posted photos with the hashtag “liikenneraivo,” which is Finnish for “road rage.”
