On Tuesday morning, Transworld SURF received some shocking emails saying that pro surfer Chris Ward had beaten up three girls at Whiskey Creek bar in Mammoth Lakes, California. At first we didn’t want to believe it, “Maybe it’s some f–ked publicity thing we thought. But no, the emails kept coming. There were witnesses to the whole thing, and a photo of one of the girls’ face all bruised up was emailed to us.
On Thursday we called the Mammoth Lakes Police Department and they confirmed the story, Chris had been arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon (the piece of ice) and various other charges, been arrested and put in jail. He has since been released on bail.
According to a report on surfermag.com, Ward has denied the whole thing, saying he was jumped and “I should be the one pressing charges.” His statement, however, contradicts that of Whiskey Creek Bar Manager Jake Wallace, “I’ve seen a lot fights working here, but nothing like this. It was really disturbing.
Should these allegations prove true, Chris Ward, one of California’s most popular and talented surfers ever, is in a world of trouble.
