Colin O’Brady
Everest is one of many mountains American triathlete Colin O’Brady will attempt to tackle this year as part of his BEYOND 7/2 project. For it, O’Brady will take on the highest peaks on each of the seven continents and trek to the last degree of latitude at both the North and South Poles — all in less than six months to set a new record for the Explorers Grand Slam. All the while he’s raising funds to fight childhood obesity though the Alliance for a Healthier Generation. O’Brady will have support for the Everest portion of the challenge from New Zealand outfitter Adventure Consultants.
O'Brady's Biggest Challenge: “No one has really climbed Everest recently, so that, of course, scares me, along with all of the stories of things going wrong up there. The margin of error is so small, and if things do go wrong, you can pay with your life. Any sane person would have a little bit of trepidation when thinking about it. Add the cumulative fatigue of being out here so long [completing the BEYOND 7/2 challenge] and it makes it even harder … I may be trying to summit Everest essentially from sea level in less than a month, which is a tall order.”
