Things are about to get very chilly on National Geographic’s Hostile Planet. Hosted by adventurer and survivalist Bear Grylls, the series will air its season finale on Monday night, taking a deep dive into the animals who can survive the harsh “Polar” terrains across the globe.
Each episode of the series centers on a region of the world to show how wildlife adapts to these extreme locations, whether it’s the highest mountains, most dangerous deserts, or unpredictable jungles.
“These animals face constant challenges to their existence and that of their young,” Grylls told Men’s Journal. “They must adapt to the cruelest of nature’s curveballs in order just to eat, find shelter and breed the next generations. Their total resilience is a reminder of the beauty and fragility of life – from the smallest creatures to the largest.”
In an exclusive clip from the season finale, the 12-foot long leopard seal goes after some Gentoo penguins, and it becomes a race to see if one of the straggler penguins can make it to safety. The finale episode of Hostile Planet will air on Monday, May 6 at 9/8c on the National Geographic channel.
