Listen to Me Marlon
Is there anything better than hearing the story of Marlon Brando’s legendary life as told by the man himself? Director Stevan Riley uses a treasure trove of audiotapes the famed actor recorded in a sublime state of self-realization later in his life, along with archived interviews from his younger days and clips from throughout his remarkable film career. Riley makes full use of those tools, and with expert hands creates a brilliant collage worthy of the icon. Regardless of whether or not you’re familiar with the level of which Brando was celebrated, revered, and desired, it would be fair to say the film is as clear a portrait that will ever be available. As a proper documentary should, it doesn’t shy away from rumors that followed the end of Brando’s career, but instead illuminates them. Listen To Me Marlon leaves any viewer feeling like they actually knew the reclusive Brando, which says quite a bit.
