Hot Air Ballooning
For purity and simplicity, you can’t best a mode of flying that has no moving parts at all. In between blasts of the propane heater, hot air balloons are completely silent, drifting with the ambient breeze. It’s the closest thing you’ll find to the sensation of effortless weightlessness you’ve experienced in dreams. To earn the requisite lighter-than-air pilot’s certificate, you need at least 10 hours of flight instruction – though practically speaking most people will need at least twice that before they’re confident enough to pass a check ride.
