An off-the-beaten-path banana bread hut might be the highlight of your ride, but it’s always better to create a fueling plan that includes key nutrient-dense superfoods to sustain your long rides. “I don't remember the last time I ate a pre-packaged bar on a bike ride,” said Skratch Labs’ Lentine Alexis. “Most recently, when I was preparing for Cape Epic in South Africa, I made a batch of these Cacao Nib and Almond Butter Bites in bar form to stick in my pocket. They were perfect because they didn't need to be refrigerated.” For warm weather rides, Alexis also likes to make Black Sesame and Carrot Bread.
If home cooking isn’t in the cards, Lexis still suggests keeping it clean and bringing simple foods that are easy to carry and digest. “Bananas and packets of Justin's Almond Butter are a go-to snack. Untapped Maple Syrup packets are also a favorite as I can drizzle them in coffee, or spread them on pastries or treats I might find along my route.”Back to top
