Kelly Slater reveals perfect man-made wave

Now that the world title has been decided, Kelly Slater dropped a bomb today.

The world champion surfer has been working on perfecting the man-made wave, and it seems he and his team have nailed it.

“For nearly ten years, my team and I have been working on creating the first truly world-class, high-performance, human-made waves,” he wrote on Instagram. “Through rigorous science and technology, we’ve been able to design and build what some said was impossible, and many very understandably never thought would actually happen.”

In a video announcing the breakthrough, Slater called it the best man-made wave.

“Seeing that, I’m 100 percent sure our team has built the best wave ever made. It’s a freak of technology,” he said.

Now that the world title has been decided and events for the year have finished, I’m excited to show you what I’ve been sitting on for the past couple of weeks. For nearly ten years, my team and I have been working on creating the first truly world-class, high-performance, human-made waves. This is something I dreamt about as a kid. He said more details will be announced soon, but he couldn’t wait any longer to share his excitement and he also launched a website for his company, Kelly Slater Wave Company.

He surfed the prototype for the first time about two weeks ago.

“I’m still a little in disbelief, and trying to process how much fun this wave is, but it certainly feels like this is going to change a lot of perceptions about human-made waves,” he wrote.

It is still unclear where the wave pool actually is and whether or not it will be open to the public, although he does say it’s 110 miles from the coast.

A patent was filed in November 2008 by Slater and University of Southern California research professor of aerospace and mechanical engineering Adam Fincham. It shows a circular wave pool that is formerly known as a Surface Gravity Wave Generator And Wave Pool.

Ficham told the USC Trojan Family Magazine that the full-sized wave pool needs to be five acres.

Slater has been traveling the world to find a place for the wave pool.

He had entered into negotiations in Australia in 2012, but the deal fell through, according to The Gold Coast Bulletin.

A press release from a surf shop and destination REAL Watersports of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, said Slater has entered into agreements to open a wave pool.

Representatives from Kelly Slater Wave Company did not respond by press time.
