L.L. Bean “Ultralight 850 Down Hooded Jacket” 14.2oz
The second lightest at 14.2oz, L.L. Bean’s “Ultralight 850 Down Hooded Jacket” is $229 and is filled with 850 fill power down. Initially the zipper appeared cheap, but in real world use has proved to be the least prone to snagging. It has two standard pockets on the outside, an externally accessible chest pocket with media port for music lovers, a large internal zip pocket and a mesh bungee pocket. That’s about all the storage options one can dream of for a down coat, but the external pockets are not fleece lined. The hood and wrists have non-adjustable elastic while the hem has a elastic drawstring with friction stoppers. L.L. Bean offers good quality and a lot of bells and whistles for the price of this jacket, but it has the boxiest cut. When we run out the door and grab jacket at last second this is the primary pick.
Best for: Jack of all trades and you won’t have a heart attack if it tears.
