Legendary Con Surfboards Acquired by Enth Degree

New Life for Venerable Con Surfboards Brand

SAN DIEGO — December 7, 2007 – San Diego-based Enth Degree, Inc. announced that it has acquired Santa Monica, Calif. – based Con Surfboards. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Founded in 1959 by Constantine “Con Colburn, Con Surfboards has contributed significantly to surfboard innovation, having developed the floating removable-fin system, a surfboard traction spray and the first commercially-produced surf leash. Con is also credited with inventing and introducing the leash plug after other methods of attaching leashes failed. Today’s leash plug remains essentially unchanged from Con’s original design.

“We are excited to have master shaper Bruce Grant continue leading surfboard design and production, allowing us to concentrate on retail licensing and branding for additional Con Surfboards products, said Michael Donovan of Enth Degree.

In addition to Con Surfboards’ innovative surfboard designs, the deal included all intellectual property rights to original advertisements, art and history spanning nearly 50 years. “It really is a unique opportunity to own such a respected brand. We are in talks with several companies that have expressed an interest in licensing the Con Surfboards brand to create new retail opportunities and help us grow, said Donovan.

Con Surfboards will continue to be found in surf shops throughout the United States – from its original roots in California to Rhode Island and down the Eastern Seaboard. They can also be found in key retailers in Japan and the United Kingdom.
