Video: Packrafting Iceland’s Interior

Iceland Traverse by Ski and Packraft from Luc Mehl on Vimeo.

James Smith, Dan Rea-Dickins and Luc Mehl crossed Iceland in July 2015, traveling 80 miles across some of the world’s most rugged and unwelcoming volcanic terrain. Crossing the interior of Iceland is a notoriously difficult task and the area is completely unpopulated. Check out their journey as they traverse Iceland’s remote interior landscape by skis, crampons, and packrafts.

“So, we made it,” said the filmmakers. “We put in on the river and we were psyched and all smiles—free miles you know, finally letting gravity do some work for us. But pretty soon the channel braided out into too many braids so we packed up our stuff and walked to the next main channel.”
