There’s an old saying: Give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. Subscribe a man to bait service, you just might get the hug you’ve always wanted.
Okay, we might have made that saying up, but it doesn’t mean it’s not true. Subscriptions aren’t just forMEN’S FITNESS readers anymore; the most famous subscription service, Birchbox, sends grooming products right to your door for you to try. So why not something like fishing bait?
That’s the idea behind Tackle Grab, the perfect subscription service for fisherman and part of the Earnhardt Outdoors family of brands. Fill out a profile about yourself (or your giftee) and find bait coming to your door monthly for you to try. “I found a really cool model [in Birchbox], which allowed consumers to sample products that fit their profile and what they’re looking for,” says Stash Karandanis, founder and CEO at Tackle Grab. “At the same time it allowed brands to give their offerings to specific consumers.”
The format is simple: go to the Tackle Grab site and fill out a profile, answering questions ranging from what species of fish you target, location, favorite techniques and how you rank yourself. Based on this data, Tackle Grab will send a box of 4-5 baits right to your door. “It really can be anyone,” says Karandanis. “It can be a beginner and intermediate, wanting to learn about the sport. It’s a great introduction to the sport. It also could be for the expert who just wants to try out and gauge different brands that may not be available in their neck of the woods.”
Tackle Grab works with over 60 different brands of bait, including Gambler, River2Sea and Yo-Zuri. Just in time for Father’s Day, they have gift pricing — a whole year of bait for only $130.
“Everybody in their family has someone that loves to go fishing, but they have no idea what they fish for or how they fish for them,” says Karandanis. “With this, no one can go wrong. Once they buy them the gift, the recipient is the one that fills out the profile. We are then able to give him a box of tackle that’s specialized just for his fishing needs.”
