Pacific Palisades Will Rogers 5K/10K
Where: Pacific Palisades, CA
Why Run It: Finish with a winning time in this 38-year race, and you’ll earn a spot on a float in the zany, celebrity-studded Fourth of July parade that follows. The races draw about 3,000 runners combined; whichever you choose, expect plenty of patriotic flair — think inflatable Uncle Sams on front lawns, red-white-and-blue bunting, and flags galore — as residents compete in a house-decorating contest as part of the town’s long-running holiday celebration. For a serious workout, the 10K features a grueling course that starts off with a deceptive descent through a tony neighborhood full of mansions before hitting a series of dirt switchbacks on the way up to Will Rogers Park, and then finishing along Sunset Boulevard. Be sure to stick around for the parade, where you just might catch a glimpse of A-list locals like Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson or Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw watching the action.
