Chattahoochee River, Georgia
Lazy rivers don’t come lazier than the “Hooch,” as it’s fondly known around Atlanta. After hiking the East Palisades Trail, some locals like to recline in the water, seemingly far from the madding crowd, in the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. Others will head 25 minutes out of town to a launch at Azalea Park in Roswell, where there are fewer people and slightly faster currents. For a relaxing and scenic 1.5-mile cruise without rocky shoals, start at Don White Park.
Rental: Bring your own tube or rent one from Shoot the Hooch, which offers tubes for $26/day and shuttle service. SUP boards, canoes and kayaks (as well as hot dogs and beverages) are available.
