Farmington River, Connecticut
If you seek something more exotic and exciting, plan a trip to the Farmington River in Litchfield County, Connecticut. Appearing more Amazon jungle than New England at times, the 3-mile ride is breathtaking and can last up to two hours from start to finish. Though you’ll travel over three sets of rapids that’ll likely flip all but the super-tubers, the journey has more zen than zing and is worthy of an end-of-summer tradition.
Rental: Hook up with Farmington River Tubing, which rents river tubes ($20) that come with a life jacket and shuttle bus service through mid-September.
