For the Mountaineer—Mt. McKinley
Location: Denali National Park, AL
Elevation: 20,320 ft.
Mt. McKinley is America’s answer to Everest, and the third highest of the world’s Seven Summits. If you’re up for a high-altitude, multi-day challenge, this climb has it all, from base camp acclimation to a near vertical rise, to the summit. The West Buttress Route takes about three weeks to tackle, and though it’s not a technical climb, complex weather patterns make the peak unpredictable. Exhaustion can cause fatal mistakes. Grab some of your climbing buddies and pitch in to hire a mountaineering guiding company (like Alpine Ascents) who knows the mountain and will prep you in all the right ways.
