Houston Valley Trails, Chattahoochee National Forest, GA
Northern Georgia’s Chattahoochee National Forest, at the southern end of the Blue Ridge Mountains, is home to one of the biggest networks of trails in the south, including the start of the Appalachian Trail. Scattered throughout its rolling hills and thick forest are steep hill climbs and rocky crawls, open to whatever motorized beast you prefer, as well as plenty of mellow stretches that run alongside bubbling streams and beneath roaring waterfalls. The Houston Valley area, in particular, holds 25 miles of the area’s best off-road options. While some are dirt bike- or ATV-only, all trails are perfect for day-trips, as you find creative ways to connect the different roads. Then, take advantage of typical southern hospitality in nearby Appalachian towns like Dalton, where you can gas up and get some rest.
