West Maroon Pass, CO
West Maroon Pass and its surrounding fourteeners are probably some of the most photographed natural wonders in the United States. And for good reason: There are two stunning alpine lakes, waterfalls, wildflower meadows, and rolling mountains beneath the Maroon Bells and Pyramid massifs, which hold three of Colorado’s highest peaks. This is a popular hike, for sure, but very few push past the first mile to take on the entire 13-mile trail, which is best done as a two-day round-trip from Aspen to Crested Butte. Stay the night in a bed-and-breakfast in Crested Butte before hiking back to your car in Aspen via East Maroon Pass.
