Wonderland Trail, WA
This 93-mile trail circumnavigates America’s most Himalayan-like peak, Mount Rainier. And while it never actually climbs above 6,400 feet, this is still a true mountaineering challenge, as it travels through miles of lowland forest and crests multiple steep mountain ridges, all the while with spectacular views of the hulking 14,410-foot peak every time you rise above treeline. Nearly 20 trailside campsites, spaced about five miles apart, provide convenient overnight options. Or, if you just want to sample the trail, grab a daypack and check out Spray Park, a 7.5-mile round-trip through wildflower meadows that also tops out at 6,400 feet and has some of the best views on the entire trail.
