Everything (Mt. Bohemia, MI)
The winner for the best ski-run names in the U.S. has to be Mount Bohemia. Located on the steep slopes of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, and blessed by hearty amounts of lake-effect snow, pretty much every run at Mount Bohemia (which are never groomed) is a double black diamond. There’s an area called Haunted Valley with runs like Smiling Zombie, Cursing Werewolf, and Thirsty Vampire, or try the lower steeps of the Extreme Backcountry zone like Whacky Jackrabbit and Flying Squirrel. We haven’t even listed the Middle Earth– and Cosmos-inspired runs. The kicker is that the runs really are all expert only. Steep and heavily treed with a few random boulders and cliffs thrown in to keep you on your toes, it’s midwestern extreme skiing at its best. Plus the conversations at the Aprés bar describing where you skied that day will be amazing.
