The Dynamic Hobgood Duo Continues To “Soar” On Bill Johnson’s Teqoph Surfboards

CJ Takes 3 for 3 with US Open win in North America… Damo Dominates South Pacific leg with 1st at Teahupoo and 2nd in Chile!

Though the twin brother phenom known to the surfing world as the Hobgoods is a story in itself, akin to the Williams sisters in Tennis, what they place their confidence in under their feet could be characterized as the start of a shaping revolution. As in tennis and golf, the confidence that winning athletes place in their equipment is paramount to their success.

Based on recent professional contest results, it would be difficult to name another shaper that presently has a better win ratio on his boards than Bill Johnson of Teqoph Surfboards? There certainly are shapers that have broken all previous known records. Names like Merrick and Rusty come to mind, however, for 2007; Bill Johnson and Teqoph Surfboards appears to be leading the charge.

Bill Johnson, the innovative surfboard shaper who gained international notoriety as one of Rusty’s main shapers in the 1990’s and personal shaper to the Hobgood brothers, has taken his designs to a whole new level. It is no secret that the former US Champ, is quickly becoming a “go to” shaper for many of the top pros on tour – as well as “up-and-comers”. Teqoph Surfboards are “The Good’s” not so secret weapon of choice.

Johnson recently introduced his revolutionary (Patent Pending) surfboard “Stealth Quad Tail” TM. The board made it’s professional debut at Lower Trestles when 2001 ASP World Champ, CJ Hobgood took out the 4 Star Jeep Body Glove Surf’Bout (April 24 th-28th 2007). The new “Quad” tail design has extraordinary surfing characteristics. CJ is the first person to ever win a major professional surfing tournament on a four-finned surfboard. The four-corner split tail also allows a surfer to hold turns in bigger waves. The design generates more speed than a tri-fin in the same conditions and the tail is also able to flex with the wave allowing for tighter turns and maneuverability. The flexing tail, with two points on each side, acts like another fin with no drag.”

CJ’s recent US Open win was on a more traditional piece of equipment; a 5’11” X 18 1/4″ X 2 1/8″ Squash tail.

Inspired by over 16 years of shaping for WCT pros and local hot shots, Bill Johnson says that his new quad tail design, “allows a surfer to surf small waves to a superior level compared to other tail designs.

The stats speak for themselves… Teqoph Surfboards are currently the “Winningnest Boards” on the ASP Championship and World Qualifying Tours (combined). Since we all can’t become a “Hobgood”; get on a Teqoph (Take-Off) Surfboard and see if your surfing doesn’t “soar to new heights”. For more info, Log-on to
