Silence 9c, Flatanger, Norway. (formerly known as Project Hard). When I was climbing through the crux of this route, I felt like if I was in my own world, with my mind in complete silence, my body relaxed and flowing up the moves in complete harmony despite the extreme difficulty of the moves. When I reached the anchor, I wanted to scream, but I could not. Too overwhelmed to break the silence. pic by @bernardo_gimenez @climbflatanger @montura_official @lasportivagram @blackdiamond @mytendon @chimpbars @gardatrentino @ivavejmolova @pavelblazek

1 / 6

In 2017, Adam Ondra sent the first 5.15d-rated route in the world on a granite rock face in Hanshelleren Cave, which is known as one of the best climbing spots and features a 260-foot overhanging wall. For reference, Dawn Wall is rated 5.14d on the YDS. Ondra originally dubbed his four-year odyssey to climb the 150-foot-route Project Hard (since he succeeding in climbing it, it’s been called the hardest single pitch of rock climbing), but eventually renamed it Silence. The rating might change if more climbers can manage the route, but, for now, Ondra still has solo bragging rights.
