“The canoe float through the Upper Missouri River Breaks Monument, in north-central Montana, is fantastic. It’s been a decade since I visited, and I’m planning to return this summer. The first trip was with the family, when my boys were still in school. This summer, I want to experience the river alone. It’s a good place to reflect on life and have an internal conversation. It will also afford me the chance to take a few side hikes.
