2. The course is going to be a tough one
No Tour de France course is ever easy, but this year it could be particularly difficult for cyclists as they navigate the 21 stages and 2,200 miles. There are some tough, mountainous stages, and five different stages measure out to more than 130 miles.
“It’s going to be difficult this year,” Liggett said. “It’ll be tough for the favorites to assess where and when to attack because there will be no obvious options. The last couple of days are very, very difficult in the Alps—it’s the first-ever mountain-top finish—but the other days there are serious climbs in the other mountain chains. The Alps always get attention, but you have some very tough areas on the east side of the country.”
