VW unveils the electric AWD version of their iconic surf van

For many of us surf junkies, it’s always been a dream to be the proud owner of a gorgeous classic Volkswagen bus.

And rightfully so … It’s the perfect touring surf vehicle. Load your boards, pack some sleeping bags and head wherever the ocean calls you.

Recently, at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the German automobile manufacturer has announced its latest iteration of the cult favorite: The I.D. Buzz.

And it’s quite clear that the team at Volkswagen had taken styling inspiration from the iconic Microbus from the ’50s — much to many surf bums’ delight, we’re sure.

As of now, it’s scheduled to go on sale in 2022, according to Auto Motorsport News.

According to Volkswagen’s press release, the new I.D. Buzz will feature an electric driving range of up to 270 miles per charge, wireless battery charging, two electric motors with 369 horsepower, all-wheel drive, autonomous driving capabilities, fully-automatic parking and so much more.

It most certainly will not feel like the classic van we’ve all grown to know and love, however, it may just appeal to the modern-day surf bum. We’ll see.
