It’s been nearly a year since Danny MacAskill last released a video, but as patient fans are well aware, MacAskill has been hard at work. Wee Day Out, the latest video from the street trials rider was dropped today, featuring MacAskill taking a BMX-style tour of his home country, Scotland, with cinematography that rivals any in the BMX world. MacAskill’s video releases — like The Ridge in 2014 — have become something of an online event themselves, amassing millions of pageviews within days of release and awed reactions from the rest of us mortals.
This video promises to be no different: Riding through the farmlands of the Scottish countryside, MacAskill shows off new, insanely creative tricks like hopping atop an enormous rolling hay bale. In the forest, he unveils a barrel roll, followed by a couple of backward somersaults on the soft peat-covered forest floor. The wow-factor is highest at the clip’s halfway point, when shortly after passing a sign that reads “Warning! Road Liable to Flooding,” MacAskill rides across a deep puddle, is completely submerged, and keeps riding, eventually coming up and out the other side.
“Although I’m doing very abnormal riding, I set out to make a video that hopefully relates to the normal rider,” MacAskill said in the Red Bull press release. “Every rider has had to ride through a puddle when it's been a bit unknown how deep the centre of that puddle is, it just so happens that the puddle in my film is six feet deep.”
