Watch Two Pilots Fly Over Dubai in Jetpacks

“Jetman” Yves Rossy took to the skies high above Dubai in an astonishing feat of flight. The veteran pilot also brought his protégé along for the ride, 30-year-old Frenchman Vince Reffet. In his new video, the two soar high above the dramatic landscapes of Dubai’s skyline, coastal beaches, and desert outskirts with fixed-wing jetpacks strapped to their backs. Reffet is no stranger to the skies. The son of a skydiver, he base-jumped off of the world’s tallest building, Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, in 2014.

The jetpacks used in the video fly at an average speed of 124 miles per hour, have a wingspan of just over 6 feet, and weigh about 120 pounds, according to Rossy’s website. The current model is the latest in a line of prototypes that have been designed by Rossy.

“We are coming from two different worlds,” Rossy says in the video. “He has 15,000 jumps, I have 10,000 hours on airplanes, and now we are together in close formation in the air, pushed by the same energy that we always have had: passion for flying.”
