Will Ferrell has played a race car driver, a basketball semi-pro, and even an Olympic ice skater. But in HBO's Ferrell Takes the Field, he'll be out on a baseball diamond — and this time the games are real.
On a single day during MLB spring training, Ferrell played 10 different positions for 10 different teams, in an effort to raise money for a number of cancer-fighting charities. In a new trailer, Ferrell displays antics with just about every squad. He pays homage to Space Jam, arriving to a Chicago White Sox game in a helicopter on the outfield grass, he sports a papier-mâché beard in the Cincinnati Reds clubhouse, and even carries goofy signs into the Chicago Cubs infield.
Coming off the heels of the successful sports mockumentary 7 Days in Hell, which aired earlier in July, HBO seems poised for another comedic win here. "What's more American than grabbing a hot dog, heading to the ballpark, and watching nine guys from the Dominican Republic make magic on the field," Ferrell jokes straight-faced in a speech to Padres fans.
Ferrell Takes the Field is scheduled to air on HBO at 10:00 p.m. EST on September 12.
