Watch Wingsuit Pilots Soar Over an Active Volcano

Three members of the Red Bull Skydive Team took a wingsuit flight over one of Indonesia's active volcanoes. Georg Lettner, Dominic Roithmair, and Marco Fürst jumped from a helicopter at 13,000 feet over the towering 7,200-foot Mount Bromo outside of Jarkarta in East Java, Indonesia. The volcano sits in the middle of a plain known at the "Sea of Sand" and last erupted in late January, 2011.

Skydiving over a volcano was a first for the team, which is based in Austria. Jumps are normally made below 13,000 since the thin air at such high altitudes cause the wingsuits to operate differently. Additionally, having only 5,800 feet to fly in between the heli and the volcano gave the divers limited space to work with while flying.

Footage of the jump and its spectacular views of the volcano and the surrounding mountainous terrain of the Tengger massif was caught on camera by the team, who stayed on-site three days to film in between harsh, unflyable conditions due to Indonesia's monsoon season. Despite the challenges, the result is incredible.
