North Face Rolling Thunder
North Face built this bag to last. Super tough abrasion-resistant fabric and a solid chassis make this our preferred bag for moving overweight loads. We dig the separate enclosure, billed as a ‘dirty clothes compartment,’ for holding stinky drysuits and molding booties. We tested the 30-inch design (80L), the mid-sized bag in the Rolling Thunder lineup. The outer bag is made from North Face’s Base Camp material paired with nylon for extra durability. If you’re looking for bells and whistles, this bag has quite a few: plastic bumpers on external wear points, plus daisy chains and a Sherpa strap to carry extra bags or gear on the outside. There are also two external zipper pockets on the face of the bag and small one on top. All this creates the potential to push your weight limits to the, um, limit. The bag itself gives you a head start in that game however; it weighs almost ten pounds empty, so keep that in mind when you start stuffing. Overall this bag is a good fit for the multi-sport adventurer.
