By Sea (Round 2)
Magellan: Although he underestimated how large the earth was, resulting in a long journey that cost him his life in the Philippines, one of his ships still circumnavigated the globe – meaning even death couldn’t stop him. Cousteau’s ship, meanwhile, was accidentally sunk by a barge.
Cook: Zheng He’s legacy was short-lived; the Chinese emperor ordered his charts destroyed. Cook, on the other hand, managed to accurately map travel destinations as diverse as Newfoundland, Alaska, and Australia’s Great Barrier Reef (where, it should be noted, he ran aground).
