Gretel Ehrlich, The Solace of Open Spaces
Gretel Ehrlich’s first book focused on an unlikely muse: the outdoor spaces found in the state of Wyoming. Ehrlich has a gift for zeroing in on particular spaces and communities around the world: her most recent book, Facing the Wave, looked at the effects of the tsunami that hit Japan in 2011. In this 1985 book, she chronicles several years spent in Wyoming, including plenty of detail on its residents and its landscapes, finding the powerful in the quotidian.
