Former MMA fighter-turned ultra runner, Dietz has his sights set on this particular trail, as it’s the longest continuous trail in the Caribbean, spanning 115 miles of wildly mountainous and volcanic terrain.
Split into 14 segments, parts of the WNT are popular hiking trails, but up to this point no one has documented an attempt to run the trail straight through without stopping, which is exactly what Dietz set out to do.
He pulls from his experience as a runner and a fighter to tackle what turned out to be one of the greatest challenges he has faced as an athlete. “MMA has helped me in trail running and racing – it keeps that fight that’s in me alive. It gets that spark going,” says Dietz.
