Winnekenni Park Conservation Area, Haverhill, Massachusetts
Why Run It: This 700-acre conservation area in Haverhill offers up miles of trails, including a pleasant 4.7-mile loop around Lake Kenoza. Wide, smooth dirt paths over rolling terrain let you zone out on a mellow run, or crank out speed work without much in the way of trail obstacles. Views abound, and side trails allow added mileage and exploring. And, oh ya, there’s a castle built in 1873 smack-dab in the middle of this park. “Winnekenni is an amazing gem in the heart of the city of Haverhill,” says Bradford, Massachussetts runner Dave Dunham, who has represented the US at the World Mountain Running Championships seven times.
