Tigris of Gaul
Played by: Sven-Ole Thorsen
Movie: Gladiator, 2000
Villain Info: Thorsen, a champion bodybuilder and strongman competitor who won the title of Denmark’s Strongest Man in 1983, plays Tigris, a gladiator summoned from retirement to kill Crowe’s Maximus for the villainous emperor played by Joaquin Phoenix. The 6’5” giant towers over Crowe in the arena, sporting a badass lion mask and huge muscles that make for a dangerous combination against the former general-turned-fighting slave. (It helps that Crowe also has to fight off multiple tigers while battling Tigris.) Thorsen was no stranger to boiled leather and metal armor, either—he earned his cinematic fame by crossing paths (and matching fists) with Arnold Schwarzenegger in Conan the Destroyer and The Running Man.
