There’s an array of classic titles that come to mind when we think about Christmas movies: Elf, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Home Alone, and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, to name a few. But one that we wouldn’t normally put on that list is Deadpool.

Fox Studios is preparing to release The Deadpool Before Christmas, a PG-13 edit of Deadpool 2 on December 21. Although we’re not entirely sure how the production company will pull this off, Ryan Reynolds tweeted out a photo of the Merc With a Mouth in costume sitting across from Fred Savage, a mirror image of the scene in the cult classic The Princess Bride.

The speculation is that Deadpool will be narrating the story just like the grandfather in the 80’s hit, omitting all of the violence and vulgarity that make the comedy R-rated. Fox has not yet revealed exactly how the film will be laid out, but a family-friendly Wade Wilson isn’t that easy to imagine.

UPDATE: Some new details have come out about the new Deadpool release, officially titled Once Upon a Deadpool. The release will be from December 12 to December 24, and portions of the box office proceeds will go to the charity “Fudge Cancer.”

Deadpool 2 grossed $734 million at the box office, so a re-release probably won’t hurt the antihero sequel. Some new footage of everyone’s favorite sort-of-superhero could be entertaining, but if you’re more into the R-rated version Deadpool 2 is still available for purchase.
