Martin revealed an excerpt from the anticipated Winds of Winter (part of his A Song of Ice and Fire series) on his website, which centers on a character never introduced on the HBO show, taunting enthusiasts of the series worldwide. The nearly 6,000-word excerpt focuses on Arianne Martell, a noblewoman from Westeros' southern-most peninsula, Dorne, and teases readers with a taste of what the Sand Snakes, Prince Doran, Areo Hotah, Ellaria Sand, and Darkstar are up to.
