Lindsey Vonn’s final Olympics may be behind her, but she’s still training with a tenacity that’s hard to match.
If you follow her elaborate workouts on Instagram, you’ll catch her cooking her abs with imaginative crunches, like while balancing on Swiss balls and hanging from a Mission Impossible-esque rig made of resistance bands and gymnastics rings.
Vonn still has one goal left, after all: become the most winning ski racer of all time. She has to beat Ingemar Stenmark’s standing record of 86 World Cup wins. Right now she’s got 82.)
We caught up with Vonn in rare form. Really rare form. She donned a silver sequined body suit and neon-pink wig for her annual Lindsey Vonn Foundation fundraiser—the nonprofit she launched in 2014 with a mission to empower young girls in athletics.
Before she tore up the dance floor, she sat down with Men’s Journal to share a few of her favorite things.
What’s Your Go-to Cocktail?
When I’m celebrating—I’ve done that quite a bit over the last few years—it’s sparkling wine. Ferrari Trento, right out of the bottle, wringing it out of my speed suit. Then if I go out, which is very, very rare, it’s Red Bull and vodka. I’m like a grandma. I can’t stay awake for very long. I go to bed at like 9p.m.
How About an Adventure You’re Dying to Go On?
I’ve been wanting to go to Fiji for, like, 10 years. I want to go scuba diving, and just go on a sailboat and island hop with my brothers and sisters like my dad did with his brothers and sisters.
What’s Been Your Favorite Travel Destination?
Cortina d’Ampezzo. It’s just so beautiful. The Dolomites are amazing. And the vibe is so great.
Favorite Piece of Gear at the Moment?
Probably my Beats—my Studio3 Wireless are noise-canceling. I need my quiet time. I don’t like talking to people on airplanes or the gym, which is why I mainly stay at home when I work out. When I’m not doing anything or when I’m focused, I just want to relax. I don’t want to hear anyone.
What Do You Like to Listen to?
Hard rap to amp up for a race, and more easy listening, like R&B, on a plane.
Favorite and most-dreaded exercise?
I like to experiment. I don’t just go and do one particular exercise every time. The one I really enjoy the most is [barbell core rotations]. I always feel like it jacks up my core. It’s really dynamic. But I really don’t enjoy doing arms. I like doing pullups, but I have tendonitis in both of my shoulders so it’s really difficult to do anything with them.
