Matthew McConaughey is no stranger to transforming for a movie role. He lost a massive amount of weight for his Oscar-winning performance in Dallas Buyers Club, gained weight for his role in Gold, and grew out a mullet to play the father of an FBI informant in the true-life story White Boy Rick. So it’s no surprise to see McConaughey completely lean into his performance in The Beach Bum, where he plays a poetry-writing stoner alongside Zac Efron, Isla Fisher, Snoop Dogg, and Jimmy Buffett.

The film, the first from director Harmony Korine since 2013’s Spring Breakers, follows McConaughey’s character, a “rebellious stoner named Moondog [who] lives life by his own rules,” according to the official logline from IMDB.

The film also features a pretty unrecognizable Efron, who is sporting a blonde mullet-type hairstyle with a crazy beard. There isn’t much out there yet about the actual plot of the movie, but it has McConaughey and his performance in the teaser alone will have you hooked

The Beach Bum is set for a March 22, 2019 release.
