Star Wars: Jedi Challenges
Normally Star Wars: Battlefront II would be on this list. But given the loot crate debacle surrounding that game’s multiplayer experience, which was designed to fleece players for hundreds of extra dollars after the $60 price of admission just to play as characters like Darth Vader and Yoda, I can’t recommend that title. But there is another video game offering. The price tag is high, but Lenovo is looking at this augmented reality experience as a platform with new content coming down the pipeline. For now, the system ships with an authentic Luke Skywalker lightsaber as the main controller, alongside a globe-shaped tracking system and a Lenovo Mirage AR headset. You’ll need a recent iOS or Android phone to play, which slides into the headset after you download the app. There are currently three awesome games available, including Holochess (just like the game Han Solo and Chewbacca played in the original film), Strategic Combat (which turns your table or floor into classic battles from the films like Hoth and Endor, and Lightsaber Battles (go mano-a-mano against the likes of Darth Vader, Kylo Ren and Darth Maul). Augmented reality brings the gameplay to life in front of your face (not unlike a much more advanced version of the hologram technology that’s a mainstay in the Star Wars films). It’s so cool, you’ll want to come back again and again to play.
