William Eggleston – The Democratic Forest – Selected Works: William Eggleston (David Zwirner Books | Steidl)
William Eggleston is a photographer who clicks the shutter to the beat of his own inner drum. Earlier this year, he told The New York Times, “The only pictures I like are the ones I’ve taken.” Eggleston, now 77, was one of the first photographers to work mainly in color, which earned him the moniker “the father” or, at least, “the godfather of color photography.” He has published numerous monographs, and his latest, The Democratic Forest: Selected Works, provides a great entre into his massive body of work. His choices of composition and color play are not always immediately obvious, but if you look long enough, you’ll find that the magic lies in the details.
