With epic reboots like Mad Max: Fury Road, we decided to dig through the post-apocalyptic film genre and see which movies, in the event of a global crisis by way of spiritual prophecy, viral pandemic, climate change, WW3, super tsunami, or alien invasion, were most fit to be used as visual survival manuals.
Guiding us through this cinematic wasteland is Dan Martin, the author of Apocalypse: How to Survive a Global Crisis, which suggests that, should it be the end of the world as we know it, you’ll feel fine. Or at least prepared. Lest you think Martin’s another keyboard road warrior, the Desert Shield veteran has logged over 75,000 hours in the field with his non-profit group, visiting places like Haiti, Japan, Iraq, Columbia, and Mexico during catastrophic incidents.
His criteria for the top films looks at accurate portrayals of the environment, human behavior, likeliness to occur, etc. So hunker down in your shelter, grab a ration beer, and click through to see how your favorite post-apocalypse flick fared.
