The Wild Angels (1966)
Peter Fonda and Bruce Dern play fellow gang members of a Venice chapter of the Hell’s Angels. The movie’s plot is basically a vehicle to go from one rowdy party to long rides through the desert and back. For an added level of authenticity, members from the actual Hell’s Angels as well as Coffin Cheaters club were added to the cast. Fonda is statuesque while playing the gang leader wearing his aviators atop his Harley-Davidson Panhead, and this movie was the precursor to his next motorcycle film, Easy Rider.
The Scene: Once again, Fonda delivers an opening sequence almost worth the whole movie, where he roars his chopper out of the suburbs and onto the highway to a grungy soundtrack by David Allen and the Arrows.Back to top
