Rocky Marciano remains the only heavyweight boxer to have never lost a pro fight, going 49-0. He rose to prominence in 1952, when he beat Jersey Joue Walcott in a bloody 13-round brawl, and soon counted movie stars like Jerry Lewis among his friends. This hard-changing biogrpahy makes clear, however, that Marciano kept close ties with Mafia figures—such as Frankie Carbo, who promoted and profited from his career—and that the fighter invested in mob-backed ventures later in life, complicating his legacy.
