Sat, 4/1: Catching Hell (ESPN2)
Now that the Chicago Cubs have won the World Series, it will be far easier for fans to stomach this brilliantly done documentary from esteemed filmmaker Alex Gibney. The director digs deep in an investigation of the infamous moment where a misguided spectator, Steve Bartman, deflected a foul ball out of the gloves of Cubs left-fielder Moises Alou, with just five outs remaining, thus derailing a crucial Cubs’ win. Bartman found himself the scapegoat for the long-suffering Cubs’ fans. The movie is an insightful and fascinating look into the psychology of sports fandom.
