It seems those records on sale at Urban Outfitters and Whole Foods are actually being scooped up.
According to Billboard, vinyl sales accounted for 14% of all physical album sales last year in the United States. To put a real number on it, 14.32 million records were sold. This is the highest number during the Nielsen Music-era—the media research firm began recording sales in 1991. All the LPs people bought made up 8.5% of the total music bought in 2017, including digitally downloaded tracks.
Rock was the biggest genre sold by a wide margin, making up 67% of all vinyl sales.
The biggest vinyl seller was The Beatles- Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band with 72,000 copies sold. The Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 1 also saw big numbers with 62,000 sales. Rock on.
