Shogun World is Coming—and There Could Be More Worlds After That
During Maeve’s escape through the Delos labs, she walks through a floor that’s not full of cowboys or callgirls, but instead, it’s full of samurai hosts. In the original Westworld film, there were three different “worlds,” including Westworld, Medievalworld, and Romanworld, and many fans wondered if the TV show would reveal similar “worlds” eventually. Well, it’s coming.
Now revealed to be “Shogun World,” the new trailers for the series show glimpses of what that world looks like. Co-creator Jonathan Nolan told Entertainment Weekly in an interview that Shogun World will be “brutal and beautiful.”
“We want to try and gently temper expectations,” Nolan said to EW. “Most of our season is spent in Westworld — the eponymous Westworld. But we do get a chance to glimpse some of the other worlds. And we have a couple of episodes that are spent in Shogun World with one of our storylines, while our other storylines continue elsewhere. So I say we’re trying to temper expectations, except to say that I think the stuff we did for Shogun World is spectacular. It wasn’t just about gore, it’s also about being immersive. We wanted to feel like our story dropped into a totally different world. Basically, we have a whole episode in Japanese.”
