The Kevin Costner-led series has been a major success for the Paramount Network, scoring multiple ratings wins week after week on its way to becoming the biggest first-year cable drama—in any season—since American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson in 2016.
Yellowstone aired its season finale on Aug. 22 and after those ratings came in, the show finished off with an average of five million weekly viewers across all platforms, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Those numbers made the series the most-watched cable show of the summer, and as of August 2018, it’s now the second-most watched series on cable behind The Walking Dead, AMC’s mega-hit zombie series.
Yellowstone follows John Dutton (Costner), a sixth-generation rancher who runs the “largest contiguous ranch in the United States.” Dutton and his family find themselves dealing with a number of different issues on all sides of their ranch, including clashes from land developers, a local Indian reservation, and, of course, the titular National Park, which was the first National Park established in the United States.
It all adds up to an intense, dramatic look at what it takes to survive and thrive as a rancher in modern America. Even though the first season is over, you still have plenty of time to catch up. In fact, Season 2 is around the corner, premiering on June 19 at 10 pm ET. Here’s a look at the trailer for Season 2:
