The corn dog is a classic American staple in how it was born out of a necessity to adapt to this country’s taste for unique (read: fried) food. Derivative of the ancestral German sausage, the corn dog was born out of a need for German sausage makers to adapt to Texan palettes by coating the tubes of meat in a cornmeal batter. Eventually a stick was incorporated, and the corn dog as we know it came into existence, optimal for on-the-go dipping and devouring. It’s such a staple of any fairgrounds experience, from county to state, and no trip to the local fair grounds could be truly complete without it.
