Deep Fried Stick of Butter
Created for the hundredth anniversary of the Iowa State Fair, the deep-fried stick of butter was resulted from the tendency of state fair vendors to want to deep fry literally everything (see deep-fried Snickers and deep-fried pickle later in this list) to its logical and artery-damming conclusion. The result is a corn dog-resembling shell with a surprise explosion of steaming hot melted butter contained within. It’s a spectacle that makes no attempts to pretend to mitigate any of the desire behind that salt and butter craving with any kind of shame. The experience pushes the boundaries of what most people consider edible, but at the fair, all bets are off, and normal gastronomical expectations should be thrown out the window.
